Charles L. Davis Sr., 78, passed away at 8:15pm on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 29, 1932, in Shipman, Illinois the son of the late Charles A. and Ruth Goldie (Doyle) Davis. He married the former Joanne Cummings on February 15, 1954, in Jerseyville, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Jeannie and Greg "Toad" Wedding of Bethalto, Denise and Mark Weiser of Alton, seven grandchildren and their spouses: Derek and Rikki Wedding of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jodie and Severene Savage of Rosewood Heights, Amie and Jared Harmon of Springfield, Illinois, Lyndee and Brandon Austin of Rosewood Heights, Kari Davis of Waterloo, Illinois, Justin Rhoades of Granite City, Jessica Weiser of Madison, fourteen great grandchildren: Kyle Tidwell, Ashley Tidwell, Severene Savage, Arlie Davis, Mason Savage, Caden Harmon, Abigail Austin, Chloee Harmon, Aubre Austin, Kaylie Savage, Ally Austin, Aubrey Weiser, Triton Catalano, Charli Jo Wedding, and one brother: Wilbert Davis of Jerseyville, Illinois.
He was formerly employed at CBW Transport as a truck driver for 36 years prior to his retirement in April of 1993. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wood River. He loved to garden, antique, hunt, fish, play pool, and keep his yard looking immaculate. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 in Alton. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved RFD television.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Charles "Arlie" Davis Jr., a grandson: Ronnie "Jake" Eugene Tidwell, his brothers: Jimmy, Warren, Wilbert, Claude, Clarence "Jack", Clyde, Albert, and his sisters: Goldie, Irene, Dorothy Key, and Viola Schofield.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10:30am until time of funeral services at 12:30pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Tom Geison will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
