Richard Schroeder, 60, passed away at 1:10am on Monday, December 26, 2011, at his son's residence. He was born on January 2, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois the son of Carl A. and Gloria (Keating) Schroeder of Shipman, Illinois. He married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Holzer on July 19, 1980, in Chicago, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Laura and Dan Kunze of Madison, Wisconsin, two sons and a daughter in law: Sean and Kelli Schroeder of Bethalto, Illinois, Scott Schroeder of Bethalto, Illinois, two granddaughters: Isabelle and Greta Kunze, an expectant grandson, two brothers and a sister in law: Paul Schroeder of Carlinville, Illinois and David and Sheri Schroeder of Cool Valley, Missouri, one niece: Amanda Schroeder, and one nephew: Kyle Schroeder.

He was formerly employed as an assistant manager at Argo - Collier for 15 years in Chicago. He was employed at Ace Hardware in Bethalto for the last 4 years. He was a member of the Bethalto Rotary Club, the Piasa Masonic Lodge #27 in Alton. He was formerly a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 2pm until of memorial services at 3pm on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the Bethalto Knights of Columbus. 

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
