Anthony "Tony" Davidson

November 4, 1970 — June 30, 2023

Anthony “Tony” Carson Davidson, 52, of East Alton, Illinois, passed away at home unexpectedly on June 30th, 2023. He was the last surviving son of the late William "Bill" and Sherry (Mick) Davidson, born on November 4, 1970. Tony is survived by his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Barbara "Barbie" Davidson; his daughters, Mallorie and husband Wyatt Flatt of Edwardsville, and Mackenzie Davidson and partner Matt Mellenthin of South Roxana; and three grandchildren, Aaliyah Davidson- Vassar, Isabella Mellenthin, and Liam Mellenthin.

Tony was an iron worker by trade, but after becoming disabled in his early 30s, he was not able to return to the profession he so admired. He revered spending time with his best companion, his tiny dog Paladin, who accompanied him wherever he went. He was stubborn, funny, and quiet. A man of few words, but the words that were spoken were worth hearing. Tony took pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling his wife, Barbie. He adored his grandchildren with his entire being. Their favorite activities with their Pappy included riding bikes, playing outside, and making crafts. His artistic talent will not be forgotten: from drawing to construction to ornamental iron, nothing he touched was unappealing.

Preceding him in death were his fraternal and maternal grandparents; his loving parents, Bill and Sherry; and his older brother Billy.

While his death was unexpected, Tony suffered from substance abuse after becoming disabled, and for many years we feared that this disease would claim his life. He suffered from shame of the addiction that taken over his life and had battled for many years to conquer it. Ultimately this disease won and stole him from his family. Opioid addiction has reached epidemic proportions. Speaking the truth about the prevalence of drug usage could mean the difference between life and death for someone. In honor of Tony's life, we urge that the truth about this disease be conveyed and that awareness be promoted. Tony will be greatly missed, but he is no longer in suffering and his memory shall continue on in the hearts of all who adored him.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials are suggested to an animal shelter of your choice.
