Hartford:
Bruce Carpenter, 57, passed away at 12:56pm on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 22, 1969, in Granite City, the son of the late William and Betty (Sullivan) Carpenter. Survivors include his longtime companion: Karen Dean of Hartford, two sons: Brenden Carpenter of Cottage Hills, Kale Carpenter of Hartford, two bonus children: Dillon (Dylan Fuehne) Dean of Alton, Dawson Dean of Hartford, three sisters: Dana (Steve McMahon) Almeter of Worden, Denise and Dave Hellrung of Alton, Brenda Stovall of Booneville, Missouri, his bonus in laws, Elaine and Richard Dean, his brother and sister in law, Gary and Stacy Dean, who were very special to him, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Most could identify Bruce out of a crowd by his contagious laugh, a sound that brought instant warmth to any room. A great man with a deep passion for cars and motorcycles, Bruce found joy not only in the things he loved, but in the people around him. He had a gift for feeding others, whether it was through firing up the grill or quietly picking up the tab for a meal or drink. In fact, it became a running game among friends and family to see who could pay the bill first—though Bruce often won without anyone noticing. If your car broke down, Bruce was the one you could count on. Time and time again, especially during harsh winter days, he would drive around simply looking for people to help—pulling cars out of ditches without asking for anything in return. He didn’t do it for recognition; he did it because that’s who he was. Known for his unwavering generosity, he spent his life offering support, comfort, and a steady hand to others. In keeping with the compassion that defined him, he chose to donate his organs, ensuring that his final act on this earth would bring hope and healing to others. The world would be better if we all loved like Bruce.
In addition to his parents, Betty and William Carpenter from South Roxana, he was preceded in death by a brother: Billy.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at a later date.
