Carolyn J. Shive

Wood River: Carolyn J. Shive, 75, passed away at 5:34am on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Alhambra Care Center. She was born on January 22, 1940, in Hartford, Illinois, the daughter of the late John C. and Opal M. (Jimpson) Braddy. She married James Shive on January 19, 1957, in Mississippi, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2002. Survivors include one son and daughter in law: Mike and Linda Shive of Edwardsville, six grandchildren: Kalie (Shive) Harlow and her husband: Dustin of Bethalto, Kyle M. Shive, Lucas J. Shive , and Sean Matthew Shive of Edwardsville, Jennifer (Shive) Watts and her husband: Jonathan of Marion, Illinois, Timothy Shive of Bethalto, seven great grandchildren: Declan, Kayson, and Eleanor Harlow:, Braden , Briley, and Brody Watts:, Clint Shive, two sisters and a brother in law: Joan Gholson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Terry and Richard Sinclair of Godfrey, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. She was formerly employed at National Vendors in St. Louis in the sales department. Her love and passion in life were her family. She loved spending time with her sisters throughout her life. One of her joys were trips to the casino. She seemed to have an angel on her shoulder when it came to winning, and always shared her winnings and any other income she had. She was always generous with her children and family. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, cooking big meals, and just being with family. She bravely battled MS the last several years of her life. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Timothy Paul Shive, a grandson: Matthew Shive, two brothers: John and Stanley Braddy, and two sisters: Jean Ewen, and Virginia Downer. In celebration of her life, memorial visitation will be from 1pm until time of services at 3pm on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Inurnment will be at a later date at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis and will be accepted at the funeral home.
