Wood River: Charles B. Baker, 92, passed away at 12:30am on Monday, February 14, 2022, at River Crossing in Alton. He was born on August 29, 1929, in Danville, Arkansas, the son of the late Bright E. and Bessie S. (Brown) Baker. He married the former Anna Lee Verge on November 1, 1952, in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and she preceded him in death on June 23, 2013. Survivors include a daughter: Mary Ann Wilhite of Bethalto, three grandchildren and their spouses: Stacee Wilhite and her husband: Jeff Lowe of Santa Clarita, California, Justin and Renae Wilhite of Bethalto, Stephanie and Tony Librera of St. Petersburg, Florida, five great grandchildren, two great - great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Charles was formerly employed at Boeing as an Electronics Inspector. He formerly attended the Vaughn Hill Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean War. In addition to his parents and his wife, Charles was preceded in death by a son: Boyd Baker, and three sisters: Mary Sue, Georgia, and Betty Jo. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private inurnment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
