Cheryl McElroy, 72, passed away peacefully, with her children by her side at 3:45pm on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born on August 5, 1950, in Alton, the daughter of the late Mike and Dorothy (Commons) Messick. She married her soulmate, Bruce McElroy on June 14, 2000 in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2008. In June, 1969 she married Ronald Eckhouse, Sr. and in that union together they had five children, who survive: Tricia Warren (Scott Jones) of Alton, Julie Phillips of Bethalto, Carrie (Rance) Davis of Alton, Ronnie Eckhouse of Alton and Molly Eckhouse of Edwardsville; ten grandchildren: Alexa (Tanner)Jones, Baylee Clark (Becca Tompkins), Caroline Warren, Ian Bock, Carmen Phillips, Drew Hard, Alex Warren, Aeden Davis, Emily Phillips, Peyton Phillips and a great granddaughter, Blair Jones; a brother Dennis (Patti) Henneman of St. Louis, a very special companion, Gary Ring and many other extended family and friends.
Cheryl loved nothing more than spending time with her large, crazy and entertaining family. Her sense of style, creativity, gift giving, humor, storytelling and infectious laughter will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Jack Warren, who she cherished dearly.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 11th at Johnson’s Corner in Alton from 4 to 7pm.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jack Warren Memorial Scholarship Fund at Marquette Catholic High School in Alton, Illinois.
