Clarence A. Vogt

Meadowbrook: Clarence A. Vogt, 88, passed away at 12pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on August 19, 1926, in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri the son of the late Christopher and Frances (Saale) Vogt. He married the former Lillian Smith on May 28, 1949, in Portage Des Sioux and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2003. Survivors include his children and their spouses: Steven Vogt of Belle, Missouri, Cathy and Dave Manley of Bethalto, Ann and Rex Scates of Bethalto, Melissa and Elvin Ritter of Ramseur, North Carolina, Laura and Ken Lindner of Alton, Christopher Vogt and his fiance’: Debra Thompson of Bethalto, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other extended family. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1944-1946 on a mine sweeper and honorably discharged in 1946. He immediately went to work at Owens – Illinois Glass Company as a machinist. He was employed there until 1964 at which time he went to work at Jacques/Evans Manufacturing Company in St. Louis. He left there in 1986 and went to work at Olin where he retired from in 1991. He adored his family, loved gardening and wood working. He was an avid Cardinals fan. He attended Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Alton. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Dionysia Echele, Eleanor Schulze, Stella Campbell, Agnes LaLumandier, two brothers: Anthony Vogt and Sylvester Vogt. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, November 3, 2014, at the funeral home. Rev. Mark Scandrett will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials are suggested to Emmanuel Free Methodist Church in Alton.
