Roxana:
Clyde E. (Geno, Sam, Tiny) Lawrence, 83, passed away at 12:12pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on November 17, 1940, in Wood River, the son of the late Joshua C. and Alvera E. (Oller) Lawrence. Survivors include one sister: Gay Josse of Edwardsville, a daughter and son in law: Jen and Jimmy Herring of Wood River, Patrick and Kim Lawrence of Godfrey, Jon Lawrence of Rosewood Heights, his grandchildren: Jacey, Callie, Destiny, James, a bonus grandson: Bryan, and many other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in law: George Josse.
Clyde worked at Clark Oil and Refining Corp for 30 years, much of which was spent in the pipe gang. He loved anything to do with horse racing, and considered himself a solid handicapper. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and traveled to many tournaments.
After retirement, Clyde could be found having his daily lunch at Donzo’s or Bojac’s, traveling with friends to Spring Training in AZ, taking in the ‘sights’ at Clearwater Beach, Florida, or in his favorite spot–his recliner at home. Papa Geno would also give guided tours of Roxana to his favorite people, his grandkids.
Clyde was a devoted sports fan and held season tickets for both the Blues and Cardinals for many years. Clyde was always up for a few beers, hearing some of his favorite songs on the jukebox (at a low volume, of course), playing the poker machines, and talking sports with others.
In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Private inurnment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Roxana Fire Department, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
