Darrel L. Meininger

Bunker Hill: Darrel L. Meininger, 67, passed away at 11:30am on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton. He was born on January 23, 1949, in Alton, the son of the late Leroy and Kathryn (Yearian) Meininger. He married the former Linda Schmidt on July 11, 1973, in Bethalto, and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter: Dawn Thornton of Bethalto, one son: Jason Meininger of Alton, two grandchildren: Caitlyn Thornton, Rylee Thornton, two brothers and sisters in law: Steve and Jan Meininger of Plainview, Illinois, Jerry and Dolly Meininger of Alton, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Darrel was employed at Olin as a machinist for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Carolyn, and a niece: Julie. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 10am until time of memorial services at 11am on Monday, December 12, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kale Hanson will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Bunker Hill Lions Club or to the family.
