With deep love, we announce the passing of David “Dave” Hunter, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He passed away peacefully Friday, August 21, 2026.

He was born on September 2, 1943, in Brownstown, Illinois, the son of the late Marvin and Bonnie (Taylor) Hunter. He married the former Kathy Henschen on February 4, 1967, in Pana, Illinois, and she survives. He is also survived by his son Brad Hunter of St. Louis, two daughters and a son in law; Erin Hunter of Dallas, Texas, Jill and Brian Shaw of Kansas City, Missouri, and four grandchildren: Lauren Shaw, Andrew Shaw, Dylan Smith, Corbin Hunter, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.

Dave was formerly employed as a shop teacher at Roxana Community School District #1 prior to going to work as a mechanic. He then moved on to become a tool salesman at Cornwell Tools and later as an independent distributor. He was a passionate lifelong car enthusiast who enjoyed spending time rebuilding and driving his many cars and attending car shows. He enjoyed being a member of the FBI Car Club as an extension of his passion. One of his favorite personal cars was his black 1951 Chevy. Among his other favorites that he rebuilt and drove were a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, a 1959 Chevy Impala, and a 1966 Chevy C10 truck. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty and Candy, and two brothers: Thurman and Ed. He is also joined in eternal life with his twin sons, Keith and Kent.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Friday, August 28 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. It will be followed by a short service with a Priest.  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
