Roxana: Delbert Ray “Del” Cobine, 88, passed away at 7:08pm on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Cedarhurst of Bethalto. He was born on December 21, 1929, in Wood River, the son of the late Theodore and Gladys (Barger) Cobine. He married Janice A. “Jan” Cobine on March 16, 1974, in Marion, and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2018. Survivors include one son and daughter in law: Tim and LaDonna Cobine of Wood River, two daughters: Robin Blevins and her companion: John Sparrowk of Bethalto, Norma Veile and her husband: Darrell of Pennsylvania, seven grandchildren: Christopher Blevins, Tori Hoffmann, Gina Nimmo, Rebekah Visco, Amanda Veile, Stacy May, Benjamin Cobine, seventeen great grandchildren, one great – great grandchild, his special friends: Debbie and Jack LaTempt and their sons: Kyle and Michael, and Judy Loyd. Del was formerly employed at Clark Oil where he served in many different capacities and where he retired from as a warehouse clerk. Del helped to start the South Roxana Fire Department from 1950-1955 when they had no gloves and no equipment. He was on the fire crews at Sinclair Oil and Clark Oil. He was a lifetime member of the Wood River VFW Post #2859 and the Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349. Del served three, five year terms on the School Board for the Roxana Community Unit District #1 and was School Board President for ten years. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Cheryl Cobine, an infant daughter: Mary Kathleen, a sister: Joan Chaney, and a brother: Leonard Cobine. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Masonic rites will be conducted at 5pm on Wednesday at the funeral home by the Wood River Masonic Lodge #1062 A.F. & A.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at the funeral home. Elder Judy Loyd will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton. Memorials are suggested to Community Church of Christ in Wood River or to the Parkinson’s Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
