South Roxana: Dennis “Denny” Carpenter, 66, passed away at 4:45pm on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born September 6, 1954, in Wood River, the son of the late Donald “Don” and Judy (Hord) Carpenter. He married the former Tina Hardin on March 20, 1993, in Roxana, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and a daughter in law: Michael Carpenter and his significant other: Lauren Lay of Caseyville, Don and Angie Carpenter of Eldred, two daughters and a son in law: Staci and Michael Coles of South Roxana, Sara Dixon of Roxana, seven grandchildren: Faith, Cole, Austin, Sophia, Caroline, Carter, Claire, three sisters and two brothers in law: Nancy and David Jackson of Alton, Paula and Mike Wankowski of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Laura Carpenter of Wood River, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Denny was employed at Olin for ten years prior to becoming a Police Officer in the Village of South Roxana in 1978. Denny become the Chief of Police in 1985 and retired in 2014. He was a trustee for the South Roxana Fire Department for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roxana. He loved hunting, fishing, going to Canada to fish, and was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River with a law enforcement walk thru at 6pm. Private funeral services will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the funeral home. The funeral procession will leave Pitchford Funeral Home at approximately 11am on Friday, March 12, 2021, for Wanda Cemetery. The funeral procession will go past South Roxana Village Hall on the way to the cemetery. Pastor Tim Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Due to the current Covid 19 restrictions, face masks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be adhered to. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Roxana and will be accepted at the funeral home.
