East Alton:
Dixie Lee Glass, 90, of East Alton, Illinois, passed away peacefully with her children by her side at 5:20 pm on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on July 21, 1932, in Way, Mississippi, daughter of the late Jesse and Mattie Harville.
She married Leonard David Glass Jr. on December 23, 1950, in Charleston, Missouri. They began their marriage in southeast Missouri before relocating to Edwardsville, Illinois. They were happily married for almost 57 years before Leonard’s passing in October 2007.
Dixie is survived by her two children and their spouses, Michael and Vicki Glass of Collinsville, Illinois and Cindy and Bob Kohlmiller of Brighton, Illinois; her grandchildren, Nick and Jennifer Hart of Columbus, Ohio, Katie Glass of Collinsville, IL, Sean Monaghan of Collinsville, IL, David and Alyssa Gilleland of Brighton, Illinois, Heather Greenwood of Brighton, Illinois, and Morgan Kohlmiller of Georgia; eight beloved great grandchildren; her sister Pauline Little of Bastrop, Louisiana; sister in law, Barbara Glass of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and many adored nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard Glass Jr.; by her father and mother, Jesse and Martha Harville; her two brothers, JP and Alton Harville; and three sisters, Bonnie Carter, Jewel Brown, and Sue Foster; and her dear friends who have gone before her from her “Golden Girls” group.
She retired from Basler Electric in Highland, IL. She was an active member of Hearts Harvest church in Bethalto and TOPS group in Wood River.
Dixie was known for her sweet smile, her caring nature, her sense of humor, and her southern charm. To know her, was to love her. She cherished every moment spent with all of her family and enjoyed making memories with each one of them. She was a follower of Christ and enjoyed being a part of her church family. She loved to bake, sew, go camping, play bingo and card games, go line dancing, listen to country and gospel music, go to the movies and out to dinner, solve crossword puzzles, and sing (especially with her dear sisters). She loved the many dogs she had as companions through the years and was a big fan of Elvis, Marty Robins, and Allison Krauss.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends and her memory will live on in their hearts through the years as they continue on without her.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 10:30am until time of services at 12:30pm on Friday, October 21, 2022, at Hearts Harvest Church in Bethalto. Pastor Terry McKinzie will officiate. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.
