Douglas L. Pitchford

Douglas L. “Doug” Pitchford, 73, unexpectedly passed away at 4:30pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his residence. He was born on August 14, 1949, in Springfield, the son of the late Lloyd and Jane (Hall) Pitchford. He married Cecilia “Cec” Royal on August 21, 1971, in Cahokia, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Erick and Chrissy Pitchford of Girard, Tyler and Janna Pitchford of Rosewood Heights, four grandchildren: Lucas, Madelynn, Meredith, and Benjamin Pitchford, three step-grandchildren: Madison (Adam) Coleman, Zane and Preston Bradley, and many other extended family and friends.

After graduation from Sangamon State, he was employed by the State of Illinois for twenty years, first as Chief Downstate Law Enforcement Officer for the Illinois Commerce Commission and then at the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office. He then worked at Heritage Packing in Lincoln as a sales representative. Doug coached football and baseball at Virden High School prior to becoming the defensive coordinator at Mahomet – Seymour. He was a high school and junior college referee for many years. He loved the Fighting Illini, the St. Louis Cardinals, golfing, and spending time with his family. Doug was a member of Cross Church in Carlinville. He also served as a Macoupin County Democrat Precinct Committeeman.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home, 200 West Jefferson Street in Girard. Visitation will continue from 10am until time of funeral services at 11am on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Girard. His cousin, Steve Ford, will officiate. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Girard Fire and Rescue, 115 North 1st Street, Girard, Illinois, 62640, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the services or can be mailed to Pitchford Funeral Home, PO Box 626, Wood River, Illinois, 62095.
