Godfrey: Erika Barbara Owings, 91, passed away on Friday morning, May 26, 2017, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born on April 24, 1926, in Wurzburg, Germany, the daughter of the late Valentine and Maria (Manichezcot) Herrmann, sister of the late Walter Herrmann. Survivors include three daughters: Theresia (Jerry Clark) Osburn of Cottage Hills, IL, Christine (Scott Jones) Owings of Cottage Hills, IL, and Barbara (Daren West) Anderson of Godfrey, IL, seven grandchildren: Brandy (Matt), Erika, Kenneth (Jessica), Andrew (Allison), Dustin (Kendra), Nicholas (Abbrin), and Kyle, thirteen great-grandchildren: Caden, Gabriella, Maggie, Raymond, Olivia, JaKaela, Evan, Isabelle, Abigail, Carson, Zayden, Lil Nick, and Evelyn, one brother: Willie (Gertrtude) Herrmann of Germany, numerous nieces and nephews. Erika retired from Beverly Farms after 21 years of service. In her earlier years, she worked at a ball bearing factory in Germany where she met her husband Raymond during World War II. She attained her American citizenship in the 1950’s. She was an avid bowler. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 10am to 12 noon on Tuesday May 30, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 12pm at the funeral home. Pastor Kenneth Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Bowers Cemetery in Alsey, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to the Spay and Neuter Clinic in Bethalto and will be accepted at the funeral home.
