Brighton:
Gary Ray Shoemaker, 67, formerly of Rosewood Heights, passed away at 12:28pm on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on September 13, 1956, in St. Louis, the son of the late Billy and Patsy (Blackwell) Shoemaker. He married the former Luanne Stanton on August 11, 1979, in Bethalto, and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2014. Survivors include his longtime companion: Anne Freeman of Brighton, three daughters and a son in law: Marissa and Kevin Dunn of Grantfork, Kimberly Shoemaker of Hartford, Whitney Shoemaker of Alton, a sister and brother-in-law: Gail and Ron Fowler of Godfrey, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Gary was formerly employed as a welder at Metro East Industries. Following his retirement, he realized a long-held dream of living in the country when he moved to his “farm” in Brighton. He loved stock car racing and was a proud member of the Walker Racing Team #80. Gary will be remembered as a great friend and an amazing dad.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister: Connie Lee Shoemaker and a brother: Otis Shoemaker.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the funeral home. Grant Tracey will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials are suggested to Mid-Town Moms in Alton, IL, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
