George W. "Bill" Shake

Alton: George W. “Bill” Shake, 83, passed away at 9:10am, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at his residence. He was born on October 19, 1934, in Alton, the son of the late Roy and Pearl (Rushing) Shake. He married the former Marlene Hale on January 17, 1970, in Alton, and she survives. Other survivors include their children and their spouses: Gwendolyn and George Staab of Athens, Illinois, Julie Shake of Los Angeles, California, Crystal and Rob Rall of Jackson, Mississippi, Jennifer and Greg Mouldon of Godfrey, Dean William Shake of Alton, Venni Smith of Alton, their daughter in law: Sherri Smith of Godfrey, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister: JoAnn Peek of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, his sister in law: Liz Shake of St. Charles, Missouri, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Bill was formerly employed at Missouri Envelope prior to his retirement. He was employed at Miller’s Mutual later. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the Korean War. Bill loved playing golf and his golf buddies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Ronald Smith, a brother: Harlan Shake, and his brother in law: Gerald Peek, who was the husband of his sister JoAnn Shake Peek. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of life, memorial services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alton. Pastor Adrian Das will officiate. Memorials are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
