Greg Carpenter

Wood River: Greg Carpenter, 74, passed away at 8:30am on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his residence. He was born on June 10, 1946, in Alton, the son of the late Willard and Verdie (Owen) Carpenter. He married the former Cheryl Meyer on May 15, 1987, in Wood River, and she survives. Other survivors include three sons and daughters in law: Clint and Christal Carpenter, Eric and Jodi Carpenter, Jason and Lisa Carpenter, three daughters and sons in law: Stacy and Kevin Geiger, Amy and Mike Noble, Sarah and Brian Cunningham, fourteen grandchildren: Brandon, Lauren, Jacob, Logan, Emma, Caleb, Hannah, Taryn, Abbi, Brayden, Brianna, Makayla, Cody, Dilon, three great grandchildren: Sophia, Avalynn, Keeley, a brother: Rennie Carpenter, his father in law and mother in law: Charles and Judith Meyer, Sr., his sisters in law and brothers in law: Carol Carpenter, Lou Ann and Jim McFarlane, Jennifer and Kenny Yates, Marsha and Scott Edwards, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Greg was employed at Mike’s Inc. for over twenty years as a driver prior to his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and visiting the neighbors. Everyone he met loved hearing his jokes, and he found himself quite hilarious even if others didn’t. He will be most remembered for assigning everyone their own trademark nickname, his quirky quotes, and the tremendous love he had for his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jackie “Jack” Carpenter, Donald Carpenter, two sisters: Ollie Mary Elliott, Shirleen Brown, his brothers in law: Charles Meyer, Jr. and Howard Ray Brown, and his sister in law: Cathy Carpenter. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Private funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Due to the current Covid – 19 restrictions, face masks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be adhered to. Memorials are suggested to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
