Gwendolyn "Gwen" King

Gwendolyn "Gwen" (Hill) King, 70, of South Roxana, Illinois, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on July 2, 1956, in Belleville, Illinois, to Leroy "Jack" and Barbara "Barb" (Oliver) Hill.

Gwen retired from Olin Corporation after 30 years of dedicated service. Prior to her career at Olin, she spent nearly 10 years caring for children as a babysitter, touching the lives of many local families. She was a faithful member of Crosspoint Southern Baptist Church in Edwardsville, Illinois, where her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life.

Gwen found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved reading, especially her Bible, collecting dolls, spoiling her beloved dogs, and spending time with her cherished grandchildren. She was an exceptional cook and baker, remembered by family and friends for her homemade chicken and dumplings, cookies, and pies. Her kitchen was a place where everyone felt welcome, and every meal was prepared with love.

Known for her generous heart and caring spirit, Gwen was always willing to lend a helping hand. She found great happiness in caring for others and created countless

treasured memories with her family. Her kindness, unwavering faith, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by her loving husband, Darrell King; her daughters, Emily (Tyson) Wiegand, Amy (John) Ory, and Jennifer (Chris) Zeller; her grandchildren, Dalton Wiegand, Hannah Wiegand, Brenna Church, Brendan Zeller, Logan Zeller(Haylee), and Donovan Zeller; Siblings Debbie (Sandy) Stacy, Jackie (Upton) and Tom (Hill) along with extended family and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy "Jack" and Barbara "Barb" (Oliver) Hill; her sister, Donna Sue Freiner; Brother in law Larry “Rock” Upton and her MANY beloved pets.

The family finds comfort in knowing Gwen is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Crosspoint Church, 4539 Wanda Road, Edwardsville, Illinois, 62025. Pastor Tony Rangel will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the 5A's and will be accepted at the funeral home.
