Harold Gill

Brighton: Harold L. Gill, 86, passed away at 2:45pm on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born on August 5, 1931, in Alton, the son of the late Walter and Nellie (Forrester) Gill. He married the former Judith Whorl on August 6, 1960, in Alton, and she survives. Other survivors include four daughters and sons in law: Tracy and Clark Stoeckel of Brighton, Tammy and Jeffrey Burcham of East Alton, Robin and Robert Berry of Alton, Patty and Devon Bott of Wood River, one son: Mark Gill of Alton, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Harold was employed as a cartographer for the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis for thirty – five years prior to his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Rosewood Heights. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Brighton and he was a history buff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters; Lois Anderson, Mae Sherman, Norma Gill, two brothers: Alan Gill and Robert Gill. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 1pm until time of funeral services at 4pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Royce Roy will officiate. Following visitation and in accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private family inurnment will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alton History Museum and will be accepted at the funeral home.
