East Alton: Helen L. Crouthers, 92, passed away at 10:50pm on Monday, December 7, 2015, at Liberty Village of Maryville surrounded by her family. She was born on May 10, 1923, in Malden, Missouri, the daughter of the late George Franklin and Clora Mae (Ballard) Dockins. She married William Cleve Rogers in 1940 and he preceded her in death. She then married Omer Roy Crouthers in 1947 and he preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters and a son in law: Barbara Underwood of Edwardsville, Sharon and Thomas Wille of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Jeanne (Mike Martin) Abert of Worden, one son: Michael (Evia Entrikin) Crouthers of Alton, eleven grandchildren: Vince and Shannon Stone, Vance and Carol Stone, Kelly and Jeff Land, Douglas (Dale Goetzke) Crouthers, David and Jamie Crouthers, Kristin and Chris Richardson, Kyle and Katheryn Wille, Kane Wille, Kassidy Wille, Natalie and Benjamin Long, Rachel Abert, sixteen great grandchildren, four great – great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.. A homemaker in her earlier years, she worked during World War II at Carter Carburetor in St. Louis. She became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant in her fifties. She worked at Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton Mental Hospital, and later at United Methodist Village. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her former husbands, and nine brothers and sisters. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 10am until time of funeral services at 12pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Mike Southcombe will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials are suggested to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and will be accepted at the funeral home.
