Rosewood Heights: Herrell H. Lewis, 80, passed away at 12am on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Christian Northeast Hospital. He was born on July 12, 1941, in Alton, the son of the late Hugh C. and Juanita M. (Herrell) Lewis. He was the first c-section performed at Alton Memorial Hospital. Herrell married the former Bettie Wiker on June 24, 1961, in Athens, Illinois, and she survives. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June. Additional survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Susan Rowe of Wood River, Sharon and Jeff Ambrose of Wood River, two grandchildren: Kati Ambrose and Kristen (Rowe) Arbuthnot and her husband Aaron, an expectant great grandson Landen Michael Arbuthnot, and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Herrell was employed at Illinois Bell as a Communication Computer Technician prior to his retirement in 1994. Besides his family, Herrell loved cars, working in the yard, cooking, photography, and traveling. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights for 57 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Wanda Yankovich of Fosterburg, IL and Myrna Lester of Sherman, IL . In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10 am until time of funeral services at 11am on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Debra Hoertel will officiate. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will follow the services. Memorials are suggested to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 W 44th Street, Ste 609, New York, NY 10036 which will be accepted by the funeral home In accordance with the current CDC guidelines, masks are suggested to be worn.
