Homer (Bud) Harder passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, with his wife at his side. Bud was born in St. Louis on October 4, 1943, to Homer L. Sr. & Alice (Wise) Harder.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann (Miller) Harder, three sons Dan (Julie) Harder, Scott (Ann) Harder and Andy (Rachel) Harder, seven grandchildren Jessica (Shawn Davis) Harder, Adam (Cait) Harder, Alex (Danyel) Harder,
Emily (J.T. Hibbard) Harder, Elizabeth Harder, Ellen (Josh) English and Eli Harder. He also had one great grandchild Eleanor Harder. Bud is also survived by three sisters Joy (Gene) Bramley, Cathy Harting, Linda (Richard) Basden and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bud started his career as an electronic repair technician at Harder TV where he worked alongside his father. Bud also worked at Sears for 40 + years, which is where retired.
In 1978, Bud started Bud's Homemade Root Beer with his wife and family. Bud enjoyed traveling the United States selling root beer and making many great friendships.
Bud was a founding member of the Great Rivers Fife & Drum Corp. He was also a founding member of the Godfrey Khoury League where he served as equipment manager for many years. Bud was also a lifelong member at Upper Alton Baptist Church where he served the church in many roles.
Bud enjoyed traveling and both watching and playing sports, especially baseball and softball.
Bud was very patriotic and fiercely devoted to his family. He could often be seen at his sons or grandchildren's sporting events.
Bud was a very kind, generous person often going above and beyond to help someone in need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 3pm to 5pm, at Upper Alton Baptist Church, 2726 College Avenue, in Alton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis and will be accepted at the services.
