James Cox

James R. “Jim” Cox, 82, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 6:05am on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 9, 1931, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clyde E. and Louise (Caine) Cox who raised him in Chicago. He married the former Betty Odle on March 20, 1953, in Roxana and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Dena and Robert “Bob” Anderson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, two sons and daughters in law: Jimmy and Eileen “Cookie” Cox of Wood River, David and Shirley Cox of Roxana, seven grandchildren: Joshua Cox, Anna Tucker and her husband: Mike, Phillip Cox and his wife: Ashley, Christina Cox, Timothy and Haley Cox, Elizabeth Wright and her husband: Charles, James Anderson, four great grandchildren: Michael “J.J.”, Logan, Brady, and Scarlett. He was formerly employed as a pipefitter at Shell Oil. He was a homebuilder. He sold Insurance for Prudential. He retired from Olin Brass as a pipefitter. He was an active member of the Roxana Church of the Nazarene where he served in many different capacities. He was a musician and repaired pianos and organs. He was a talented leather worker. He was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Lila Cox McCain. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River and will continue from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the Roxana Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Dr. Larry Lacher will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials are suggested to the Roxana Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at the funeral home.
