James Melvin Dodson, 73, passed away at 10:05am on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his residence. He was born on February 25, 1940, in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late Thomas Alexander and Melvina (Fenton) Dodson. He married his wife Carol on December 23, 1970, in Wood River and she survives. Other survivors include a grandson: Kyle, two brothers and sisters in law: Lloyd and Janet Dodson of Rosewood Heights, Leo Dean and Janet Dodson of Brighton, Illinois, and a half sister: Opal Wetzel of Texas. He was formerly employed for 39 1/2 years as a pipefitter at the Ford Motor Plant in Hazelwood, Missouri. He attended the Roxana Church of the Nazarene where he was active with the Angel Food Ministries program. He loved fishing, playing cards, and grilling. He volunteered at South Roxana Elementary School where the kids called him Grandpa Jim. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three half siblings: Bob, Edmond, and Louise. In celebration of his life, funeral services will be held at 3pm on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Roxana Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Dr. Larry Lacher and Pastor Doug Krassow will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the South Roxana Elementary School Activity Fund.
