James "Jim" Henderson

Rosewood Heights: James “Jim” Henderson, 86, passed away at 9:30am on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. He was born on May 10, 1930, in Fieldon, Illinois, the son of the late Floyd and Leona (Womack) Henderson. He married the former Arlette Arnold on August 21, 1954, in Tunica, Mississippi, and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son in law: Lauri and Jeff Hicks of Wood River, a son and daughter in law: Jeff and Kim Henderson of Collinsville, two granddaughters and their husbands: Jenna and Marty Friel of St. Charles, Illinois, Jamie and Matt Steward of Rosewood Heights, a great granddaughter: Charlee Mae Steward, and a sister: Jean Rehkop of Patton, Missouri. Jim was formerly employed as a machinist at Owens – Illinois Glass Works prior to working at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River and the East Alton American Legion #794. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War Era on the USS John A. Bole destroyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Rolland Henderson. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with full military rites by the East Alton American Legion #794. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Riverbend.
