South Roxana: James H. "Jim" Mitchell, 68, passed away at 8:13am on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 4, 1946, in Alton, Illinois the son of the late Henry and Mayme (Hassmann) Mitchell. He married the former Genia Roberts on August 19, 2006, in Wood River and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Renee and Hardy Woodward of Rosewood Heights, Kay Squires of South Roxana, one son and daughter in law: James and Ashley Mitchell of South Roxana, two step daughters and their husbands: Pam and Larry Price of Southern Illinois, Peggy and Terry Edwards of Southern Illinois, five grandchildren: Jennie Woodward, Sammie Squires, Savannah Squires, Cohen Mitchell, Brayden Mitchell, five step grandchildren: Eric Price, Josh Price, Tyler Price, Cheyenne Edwards, David Edwards, a sister in law: Ellen Mitchell of Farina, Illinois, a niece: Stephanie Mitchell of Farina, Illinois, his father in law and mother in law: Stoney and Alberta Stonecipher of Bethalto, and several sisters in law and brothers in law survive. He was formerly employed at St. Louis Auto Auction as a manager in the mechanic shop. He enjoyed dirt track racing, fishing, and camping. He was member of the First General Baptist Church in Wood River where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He loved his family and dearly loved his best friends Larry and Anita Smith and their family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: John. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the funeral home. Rev. T.L. Montgomery will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family or to the First General Baptist Church in Wood River and will be accepted at the funeral home.
