James L. Searcy

October 15, 1946 — January 24, 2014

James L. Searcy, 67, passed away at 2:30am on Friday, January 24, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. He was born on October 15, 1946, in Alton, Illinois the son of the late James W. and Maurine (Harper) Searcy. He married the former Joyce (Pitchford) Merritt on June 10, 2006, in Hartford, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include one son: Nathan Searcy, one sister and brother in law: Marilyn and Jerry Johnston, his step children: Randy Merritt, Jackie Darnell and her husband: Johnny, Dana Merritt, Melanie Butler, James Merritt and his wife: Julie, Renae Kenny and her husband: Jeremy, Derek Landolt, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Family and Child Services prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Illinois Lunker Landers Bass Club. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 10:30am until time of memorial services at 12pm on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Ivy Heights Church of God. Pastor Justin Stone will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to BJC Hospice of Alton.
