Janet S. McCarthy, 60, passed away at 12:10am on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville. She was born on December 9, 1952, in Urbana, Illinois the daughter of Tacy E. (Henegar) Stevens of Glen Carbon and the late Benton T. Stevens. She married Edward T. McCarthy on February 28, 1992, in Edwardsville and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter and son in law: Elsa and Laren Zeller of Edwardsville, two step daughters and their husbands: Drs. Monica and Matthew DiMagno of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mamie and Bart Harvey of Lakeview, Minnesota, one step son and girlfriend: David McCarthy and Dr. Jenn Stephani of Tacoma, Washington, ten grandchildren: Evan Zeller, Ava Zeller, Ellen Zeller, Audrey Zeller, Charles DiMagno, Elena DiMagno, Alex DiMagno, Anna Harvey, Maria Harvey, Jon Harvey, three sisters and two brothers in law: Barbara Jones of Champaign, Illinois, Marjorie and Ken Hoedebecke of Charleston, Illinois, Vicki Stevens and her husband: Jim Royston of Edwardsville, a brother and sister in law: John and Cindy Stevens of Rockford, Illinois, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other extended family and friends. Janet was a 1971 graduate of Champaign Central High School. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville in 1975. She was formerly employed as an obstetrics nurse at Anderson Hospital for 15 years and as a hospice nurse for Hospice of Southern Illinois. She was the former office nurse for Dr. Maurice Miller. She then ran an office that monitored high risk pregnancies in a residential setting. After leaving the nursing field, she became a massage therapist with her focus on wellness therapy. Janet was a very devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, where she was an Eucharist Minister, served on the Pastoral Council, and regularly lead the Friday morning Rosary. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Janet was an avid gardener. She treasured time with her family. She especially loved spending time with her daughter and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father. In celebration on her life, memorial visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm on Friday, May 31, 2013, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the church. The Very Reverend Jeffrey Goeckner will be the celebrant. Private inurnment will be at a later date Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Relais Bonne Eau Hospice House in Edwardsville or to St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
