John L. Berghoff

Alton: John L. Berghoff, 67, passed away 12:20am on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 31, 1947, in Wood River, the son of the late Emil and Elizabeth (Meyers) Berghoff. He married the former Cathy Taylor on May 10, 1969, in Alton, and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter: Rhonda Dearing of Bethalto, two sons and daughters in law: Keith and Melissa Berghoff of Alton, Ryan and Anne Berghoff of Alton, four grandchildren: Brandon Berghoff, Tyler Dearing, Brianna Dearing, Grace Berghoff, three sisters: Dot Dustman of Fosterburg, Judy King of Alton, Mary Erwin and her husband: Jeff of Fosterburg, one brother and sister in law: Charles and Ruby Berghoff of Godfrey, his father in law: Hamer Taylor of Bethalto, one brother in law and sister in law: John and Patty Taylor of Brighton, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He was formerly employed at General Mills where he retired as the head of the Sanitation Department. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Vietnam. He loved farming and NASCAR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother in law: Dolores Taylor. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, October 12, 2015, at the funeral home. Rev. Mark Scandrett will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military honors by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton. Memorials are suggested to Mid America Transplant Services, 1110 Highlands Plaza Drive East #100, St. Louis, Missouri 63110 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
