John D. Burke

Wood River:

John D. Burke, 65, passed away at 12:30am on Monday, October 9, 2023, in the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 27, 1958, in Conway, Arkansas, the son of the late Robert and Roberta (Brown) Burke. Survivors include his children: Margaret Burke and her husband: Matthew Hupp of Chesterfield, Illinois, Sarah Behymer of Springfield, Illinois, Robert Burke of Taylorville, Illinois, Jacob Burke of Springfield, Illinois, JohnMichael Burke of Springfield, Illinois, seven grandchildren, a sister: Kelly Calkins of Ohio, and many other extended family and friends.

John was formerly employed as a deck hand at Maritime and as a coal miner at Crown II in Farmersville. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 4pm on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.

Memorials are suggested to the Wood River VFW Post 2859 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
