John Callison

John Callison, 82, passed away at 6:47pm on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on December 30, 1941, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of the late Earl and Margaret (McLain) Callison. He married the former Alice M. Ruckman on October 5, 1962, in South Roxana, and she preceded him in death on July 1, 2023. Survivors include a daughter: April Wrenn of Moro, a son and daughter in law: John and Lisa Callison of Bethalto, four grandchildren: Cole Callison, Keith Wrenn, Leigha Callison, Kaitlynn Wrenn, a sister: Norma Callison of Hawaii, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.


John was formerly employed as a forklift driver and truck driver at FMD, A.O. Smith, and for Penske Motorsports in Michigan. He was a member of the Wood River Kiwanis, the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349, and was a Pilgrim of the Moose. He was a member of the Wood River Masonic Lodge 1062 A.F. & A.M.

He was a gold card member of Splinter Creek Dirt Riders, Inc. in Fosterburg.


In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son in law: Bill Wrenn, one sister: Shirley Young, and a brother: Leonard Callison.


In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 11am until time of funeral services at 1pm on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Ryan Hardin will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.


Memorials are suggested to Mooseheart and will be accepted at the funeral home.
