Joy Louise Kissack

Joy Louise (nee Levin) Kissack, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville with her family by her side.

Joy graduated from Dupo High School where she was the very first Homecoming Queen. She then went on to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, was a college cheerleader, and met her husband. Joy retired from the Roxana School System where she was a 7th and 8th grade math teacher for 36 years. After retiring, she continued to make children smile, by sewing nearly 6000 Barbie dresses, sewing many, many stuffed bears for St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights, and by making over 700 Covid masks for the many residents at Meridian Village.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Randy Roberts, her son and daughter-in-law Bob and Judy Kissack, her three grandchildren, Laurie (John) Myers, Jeff (Noelle) Brummett, and Kristie (Jason) Shelby and her eight great-grandchildren Elise, Claire, and Johnny Myers, Declan and Delaney Brummett, and Beckham, Bodhi, and Boone Shelby. She is also survived by her brother Melvin (Phyllis) Levin and her special companion for the past 5 years, Bill Hanselman.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert D. Kissack, her parents, Jule and Blanche Levin, and her brothers George “Sonny” Levin, and Bob Levin.

Visitation will be from 9am until time of funeral services at 12pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights where she was a member for over 70 years. Pastor Debra Hoertel will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Methodist in Rosewood Heights or to the Roxana Schools Foundation and will be accepted at the services.
