Edwardsville: Jurgen Schmidt, 74, passed away at 7:18am, on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. He was born on November 9, 1940, in Germany. Survivors include two step brothers: John and Wendy Graham of Texas, Tom and Amy Graham of Redding, Connecticut, his longtime friends: Tom and Sue Ellen Rayborn of Alton, and his church family at Providence Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville. Jurgen was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville. He had a deep love for Jesus Christ and knew the Bible very well, with many Scriptures memorized. He loved to discuss the Bible and was always ready to point someone to Jesus Christ alone for salvation or to have an encouraging word from the Scriptures for a fellow Christian. He was a very loving, sincere and caring man, with a contagious smile and laughter. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9am until time of funeral services at 11am on Friday, January 30, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Aaron Myers and Tom Rayborn will officiate. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials are suggested to Providence Presbyterian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home. Online guestbook available at www.pitchfordfuneralhome.com.
