East Alton: Kenneth L. Cochran, 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home. He was born on July 22, 1932, in Alton, the son of the late Lloyd and Velma (Buhs) Cochran. He married the former Estella Barnes in August of 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she preceded him in death in 1984. Survivors include three daughters and a son in law: Karla Kopp of East Alton, Regina Lyons of Wood River, Judy and Rockford Dare of East Alton, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two sisters and a brother in law: Norma and Larry Hauck of Godfrey, and Marjorie Chapman of Maine, two brothers and a sister in law: Robert and Kathrine Cochran of Lebanon, Missouri, Richard Cochran of Alton. He was employed in the mold shop at Owens – Illinois Glass Works for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 1308 of Alton, the East Alton American Legion #794, the Wood River Moose Lodge #1349, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #254. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Shodi Heaton, three sisters: Patsy Mitchell, Judy Young, Della Crider, two brothers: Donald Cochran, and Jim Cochran. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10am to 12pm on Friday, August 5, 2016, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Military rites will be conducted by the East Alton American Legion Post #794 Ritual Team at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the East Alton American Legion Post #794 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
