Lee Hedquist

Lee Hedquist, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at his residence. He was born on October 1, 1949, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of the late Elton T. and June M. (Swanson) Hedquist. He married the former Betty Ludlow on June 10, 1983, in Glenview, Illinois.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Betty Hedquist; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shawn Belk and (Fred) of Donahue, Iowa, and Rachel Allbee and (David/Worm) Allbee of Park View, Iowa; three grandchildren, Lakyn Belk soon to be Mrs. Duffy (Finn), Hallie Belk, and Avid Allbee; and a sister and brother-in-law, Lynel Hetzler (Jens) of Watertown, Wisconsin.

Lee devoted more than 35 years to the restaurant industry, where he was respected for his leadership, work ethic, and ability to mentor and develop others. He began his career at Bishop's Café at the age of 20 before joining Ponderosa Restaurants, where he spent most of his professional life. During his tenure, he advanced through several leadership positions, beginning as a General Manager and earning multiple promotions throughout his career before serving as a Market Director. His dedication and excellence were recognized when he received the prestigious Circle of Excellence Award. Lee concluded his professional career as a Human Resources Manager with Buffalo Wild Wings. Throughout his career, he formed many lasting friendships and took great pride in helping others grow, succeed, and reach their full potential.

Lee treasured the time he spent at the family cabin in Waupaca, Wisconsin, a place that held a special place in his heart for the past 44 years. Each summer, he looked forward to spending a week there with his family creating memories. In the fall, he enjoyed returning to the cabin with close friends. He loved spending time outdoors and never passed up the opportunity to cast a line or enjoy a round of golf. He was passionate about cooking and took great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. He will also be remembered for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and remarkable gift for storytelling where he could captivate a room with a tale, drawing everyone in before delivering the perfect punchline. His stories, laughter, and ability to make people feel welcome will be missed as much as they will be remembered. More than anything, Lee cherished time spent with family and friends, and his greatest joy came from the relationships he built throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lance Hedquist.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River, Illinois, with a visitation to follow until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Carl McMurray will officiate.

Memorials may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation Missouri Chapter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
