She was born on August 26, 1935, in Walland, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie (Ogle) Sloan. She married Robert Lewis “Papaw” Duncan on November 10, 1955, in Walland, Tennessee, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2018. Survivors include a daughter and son in law: Sheila and Mark Carmody of Glen Carbon, two granddaughters and their husbands: Kim and Larry Lacefield of Granite City, Bev and Daniel Renfro of Troy, fifteen great grandchildren: Lauren Milkovich, Logan Lacefield, Reese Stimac, Adrianna Lacefield, Nia Lacefield, Danae Glasper, Makynzie Lacefield, Pasleigh Lacefield, Abre Lacefield, Zain Lacefield, Chance Lacefield, Eli Renfro, Haley Renfro, McKenna Renfro, Emma Renfro five great great grandchildren: Lennon Stimac, Aurora Glasper, Duncan Stimac, Grant Lacefield, Bentlee Gold, a sister: Wilma Wilson, a brother: William Sloan, and many other extended family and friends.
A wife, mom, and “granny”, Lora was a member of Restoration Church in Granite City. Granny spent most of her life in service to God. She led worship and played the piano, she taught Sunday school, she supported many missionaries, but perhaps her greatest contribution was to her family that she prayed for relentlessly and taught about God, even in her final days. She loved to read books about giants of faith, and last year alone, she read over 100 books. She will be missed immensely, but we are thankful we will be with her again in Heaven someday.
In addition to her parents and her husband, four brothers: James Sloan, Charles Sloan, Rex Sloan, and Gene Sloan.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 8:30am until time of funeral services at 10am on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Larry Lacefield and Pastor Daniel Renfro will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials are suggested to Restoration Church, 3375 Fehling Road, Granite City, Illinois, 62040 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
