Lowell M. Phelps

Wood River: Lowell M. Phelps, 67, passed away at 6:30am on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born on October 6, 1947, in Corinth, Illinois the son of the later Cecil and Harriett (Gaul) Phelps. He married the former Linda J. Graczyk on August 23, 2003, in Wood River and she survives. Other survivors include several grandchildren, one great granddaughter: Faith Teets, one sister and brother in law: Thelma and Glen Wuehler of Hamel, one brother and sister in law: Cecil “Bud” and Theresa Phelps of Granite City, a step son: William Neal II, a step – daughter: Toni Graczyk, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He was formerly employed as an operator at Granite City Steel retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Worden American Legion #564 and the Wood River Moose #1349. He was veteran of the United States Marine Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters: Jodie Clayton and Susan Smith, one grandson: Jeffrey Smith, a brother: Norval Phelps, and one sister: Wanda Upchurch. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites by the Ritual Team of Worden American Legion #564. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Linda Phelps and will be accepted at the funeral home. Online guestbook available at www.pitchfordfuneralhome.com.
