Godfrey:
Marlene C. Shake, 88, passed away at 11:47am on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at her residence. She was a beloved mother and Aunt. She was born on November 12, 1936, in Alton, the daughter of the late John R. and Maude (Wallace) Hale. She married George W. “Bill” Shake on January 17, 1970, in Alton, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2018. She is survived by a daughter: Venni Smith of Wood River, a son: Dean William Shake of Alton, her step children: Gwen and George Staab of Athens, Illinois, Julie Shake of Los Angeles, California, Crystal and Rob Rall of Brandon, Mississippi, Jennifer and Greg Mouldon of Godfrey, her daughter in law: Sherri Smith of Godfrey, seventeen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and many other extended family and friends.
Marlene worked as a secretary for the Illinois Federation for Right to Life and before that was employed as a secretary at Miller’s Mutual. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alton. Her lifelong passion was genealogy. She enjoyed doing research for her own family as well as others, having her own side business at one time.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Ronald C. Smith and a sister: Felicia Goeken.
She had unwavering faith in God and lived her life in accordance with her faith.
A celebration of her life, and memorial services will be held at 11am on April 5, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Pastor Adrian Das will officiate.
