Michael D. Wyhs, 64, passed away at 6pm on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his residence. He was born on June 21, 1949, in Alton, Illinois the son of the late George F. and Effie Marie (Campbell) Wyhs. He married the former Willeen "Cissi" Byrd on August 19, 2005, in East Alton and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters: Dawn Lefler of Carlinville, Nicole Wyhs and her companion: Eric Bennington of Wood River, one son: Jeremy Wyhs and his companion: Melissa Bell of Chesterfield, Illinois, seven grandchildren, nine step - grandchildren, seven sisters and brothers in law: June and Gerald Sims of South Roxana, Carol Myers of Brighton, Barbara "Bobbie" and Edward Amburg of Grafton, Diana Lowe of Brighton, Lorraine Daniels of Greenfield, Janice and Ed Lara of Alton, Ginger and Mike Lankford of Rosewood Heights, two brothers and sister in law: Daniel and Elaine Amburg - Wyhs of Bethalto, his twin brother: Thomas and Bobbie Wyhs of Brighton, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was formerly employed at Coca Cola in the production department for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He then went to work at Valvoline in Alton for 11 years. He was a member of Greater Alton Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a bingo worker at the VFW in Wood River. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: John and Michael, one brother: Richard Smith, and one sister: Marian Halstead. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 1pm until time of memorial services at 2:30pm on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Gary Chappel will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the youth group at Greater Alton Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
