Nolan Charles Kiel

April 1, 2009 — August 12, 2025

Virden:

Nolan Charles Kiel, 16, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident. He was born on April 1, 2009, in Springfield, the son of Josh Kiel and Jaclyn Rheude of Virden. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother: Austin Rheude of Virden, a sister: Nora Kiel of Virden, his maternal grandma: Kathy Kelnhofer of Virden, his paternal grandparents: Bernie and Cindy Kiel of Virden, his paternal great grandma: Doris McDuffee of Virden, his aunt and uncle: Danielle and Mike Hoff of House Springs, Missouri, and many other extended family and friends.

Nolan was a junior at North Mac High School. He was actively involved in basketball, soccer, cross country and track and he loved them all. Nolan grew up around the Virden Fire Department helping his father, Josh. He was very excited and signed up right away when they started their junior firefighter program this past summer.

Nolan was a fan of cooking and loved to experiment with recipes on his family. Some of his favorite meals included ribs, biscuits and gravy and horseshoes. He perfected his own horseshoe by eating his way through several restaurant menus, creating a top 10 best horseshoe list.  Nolan loved ice cream. Nolan was enrolled in CACC Culinary Arts program and would have started in the fall. He already knew his future was in cooking and planned to own and operate a food truck with his mom, Jaclyn.

He was a hard-working member of the Virden Sanitary District where he enjoyed working outside. Nolan appreciated his co-workers and working in a team environment. Nolan volunteered at several organizations in the community including: the local Food Pantry, Military Support Group, Gold Star Mission, VBS at First Christian Church and as a Junior Referee for Youth Soccer. He felt a sense of completion with every job or activity assigned.

Nolan loved his family strong and true. He was a proud brother to Austin and Nora. Whenever Nolan was around, laughter followed. He had a huge heart and would help wherever he was needed and above all he always led with kindness.. Nolan will be missed by all and held close in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Colby Rheude and his grandpa: Kenneth Kelnhofer.
