Robert E. “Bob” Pitchers, formerly of Virden, Illinois, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Sunday, August 18, surrounded by his precious family.
He was born on May 8, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of the late Arvel and Ethel (LeMon) Pitchers. He married the former Linda M. Fouts on August 13, 1955, in Virden, Illinois, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: David (Lisa) Pitchers of Dorsey, Illinois, Dan (Ginger) Pitchers of Annapolis, Missouri, niece Nancy (Bill) Evans of High Ridge, Missouri, four grandchildren: Stacie Eades, Katie(Michael) Dahmm, Jenny (Seth) Revelle, Evan (Erica) Pitchers, two step-grandsons: Andrew (Nancy) Ely, Spencer (Alice) Ely, sixteen great-grandchildren, sister Barbara (Randy) Colbert of North Charleston, South Carolina, brother Donald Pitchers of Johnston City, Illinois, sister-in-law Linda Pitchers of Summerville, South Carolina, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Bill Pitchers, Summerville, South Carolina and great-granddaughter Millie Pitchers, St Charles, Missouri.
Bob enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, particularly enjoying watching the sporting events of young family members and friends. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City and a former member of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden. Bob was employed by Phillips Brothers Printing in Springfield for thirty-seven years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Demolition Specialist.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 22, at Unity Baptist Church, Granite City, Illinois. Pastor Dan Pitchers will officiate. Burial will be at Virden Cemetery in Virden, Illinois.
Memorials are suggested to Unity Baptist Church in Granite City, Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services in Carmi, Illinois, and the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight.
