Ronald C. “Ronnie” Smith, Sr., 71, of Roodhouse, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on August 10, 2026.
Ronnie was born on July 5, 1955, in Alton, the son of Richard “Harry” Smith, Jr. and his safe place was with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bush. He attended East Alton Wood River High School. While in high school, he met his wife Sherrie (Beavers) Smith at Ziggy’s Skating Rink in Bethalto. They married on July 14, 1973, and they have two children: Ron Smith, Jr. and Barbara A. Smith.
Ronnie loved hunting, horseback riding, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family and friends. Ronnie drove a truck for twenty five years in which he received many awards.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Sherrie (Beavers) Smith, a son: Ron Smith, Jr. (Nancy Pembrook), his daughter: Barbara A. Smith (Paul Coleman), his grandchildren: Curtis (Cassie) Barber, Kayla Smith, Alexis Smith, Macey Smith, two great grandchildren: Cason and Camie Barber, four sisters: Donna Charles, Karen Smith, Linda (Larry) Baumgartner, and Sarah Blair.
In addition to the parents that raised him, Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, a brother: Richard “Richy” Smith, a grandson: Ronald CR Smith, and a great grandson: Ryker W. Smith.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Airsman – Hires Funeral Home, 234 North Main Street, White Hall, Illinois, 62092. Pastor Rob Brogdon will officiate. Burial will follow at Richwood Cemetery in Roodhouse.
