Ronald P. "Ron" Sands

Godfrey: Ronald P. “Ron” Sands, 83, passed away at 10:53am on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 5, 1934, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late Clifford and Perceil (Rissi) Sands. He married the former Joyce Ann Cannedy on December 19, 1953, in East Alton, and she survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son and daughter in law: Greg and Jennifer Sands of Godfrey, and three grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, and Josie Sands. Ron was formerly employed at the City of Wood River as the City Manager. He worked as a Business Manager for JF Barton Contracting in Edwardsville for over forty years. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving from 1952 to 1956 where he was stationed in Portland, Maine. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry Sands and Clifford Sands. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Private family graveside services will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
