South Roxana:
Sharon Moore Vaughn, 70, passed away at 2:34pm on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at St. Louis University Hospital. She was born on July 30, 1955, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Stewart and Stella (Johnson) Moore. She married Richard “Rick” Vaughn on May 16, 2015, in Roxana, and he survives. Other survivors include a son and daughter in law: Daniel and Dorena Leible of Fort Branch, Indiana, two daughters and a son in law: Tara and Brad Tinnin of St. Louis and Andrea Beneze of Collinsville, two step daughters and their husbands: Lacey and Andrew Johnson of Dorsey, Jessie and Nick Rice of Rosewood Heights, eight grandchildren: Stella, Sylvia, Amelia, Austin, Olivia, Lane, Grantley, Brooks, a brother and sister in law: Steven and Jana Moore of Brighton, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Scott Moore.
Sharon wore many, many hats over the course of her life, and enjoyed them all. She excelled at organizational management, and her longest and most valued careers were as a manager in the home health field as well as a manager in the construction field.
Sharon’s parents instilled an appreciation of travel and nature. She was a true lover of life, and she did her best to live it to the fullest. She cherished her grandchildren and had the sweetest nickname of “Grandma Pumpkin” bestowed upon her by her youngest troupe. Her best times were spent telling stories and laughing with her husband (who always kept her rolling), children, many friends and extended family, whether that be at home (both her IL and FL homes), out in the community, or on an adventure (particularly one that involved a margarita on the beach). She spoiled the heck out of her sons-in-law, who loved her in return, and enjoyed reading, music, singing, and dancing, and her smile and laugh were contagious, filling every room she walked into.
A celebration of her life will be from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Wood River Moose. Memorials are suggested to the OSF Cancer Center. We cannot thank enough, the kind and loving medical providers at both OSF and St. Luke’s who cared for her over the years. She always felt safe, heard, and well taken care of and that will not be forgotten.
