Shirley Mccann

Rosewood Heights: Shirley McCann, 76, passed away at 1:39pm on Saturday, May 18, 2019, in the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 18, 1942, in Alton, the daughter of the late Louis and Ruth (Cruse) Ringering. She married Melvin McCann on June 10, 1961, in Rosewood Heights, and he survives. Other survivors include her cousins and their spouses: Darlene and Art Spurr of Dorchester, Illinois, Marcella and Pat Girdlestone of Cave Junction, Oregon, Robert and Ellie Unterbrink of Springfield, Illinois, her brother and sister in law: George “Jeep” and Debra McCann of Louisiana, her sisters in law: Marcella “Sis” Wilson of Alton, Evada “Bake” Bruce of Alton, Aurella “Artie” Holder of Indianapolis, Melvina “Jitter” Powers of Sparta, her special friends who were family to her: Ron and Sharon Cline of Godfrey, Phil and Denise Schmitz of Rosewood Heights and their children and grandchildren: Jodie Hayes of Edwardsville, Jennifer Dowdy of Rosewood Heights, Jamie Bertoletti of Rosewood Heights, Samantha and Brawley Darbon, Charlotte Hayes, Taylor Dowdy, Christian Bertoletti, Kalee Bertoletti, and many other extended family and friends. Shirley was employed as a hairdresser at LaBonita’s in Wood River for several years. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights now known at Rosewood Heights Community Church where her and Melvin were very active in the children’s ministry and Vacation Bible School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters in law: Verla and Berdella. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Visitation will continue from 9am until time of funeral services at 10am on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Rosewood Heights Community Church. Pastor Ron Wenzel will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials are suggested to the Rosewood Heights Community Church or to the Treehouse Wildlife Center.
