Stephen A. Zuehlke, 62, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Steve was the devoted and loving partner of Barb Langston for nearly 20 years. Together they built a life filled with love, family, music, and countless cherished moments. He was a proud father to Megan Rolen (Troy) and a caring "Stevo" to Leslie McCray (Kurtis), Linsie Chiles (Jon) and Danny Langston (Stevie). His greatest joy was being "Grandpa Stevo" to his ten beautiful grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart: MacKinsie Chiles, Zoe McCray, Logan Ross, Hudson Chiles, Mallory Chiles, KJ McCray, Lily Langston, Millie Rolen, Kole McCray and Sophie Rolen.
He is also survived by his beloved sister, Karen Zuehlke, and his cherished nieces, Paige and Abby Suter, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Steve was preceded in death by his father and mother, Karl and Virginia (Kruep) Zuehlke. Steve dedicated his career to the steel industry. He worked for his father's company, E-M-E, where he learned the steel business from the ground up. Steve worked many years for Sligo/Omega Steel and Tinsley Steel where he built a respected career in steel sales. He was known for his solid work ethic, honesty, and ability to build lasting relationships.
Outside of work, Steve embraced life with passion and curiosity. He was a devoted music lover whose appreciation for great songs spanned generations. He recently began taking guitar lessons to broaden his love for music. He had an extraordinary talent as a magician and entertained family and friends with performances that sparked wonder and laughter. His fascination with the art of illusion extended into an impressive collection of magic books, reflecting his lifelong love of learning and mastering his craft. Steve was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians/Ring One and The Society of American Magicians. Steve will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and the genuine kindness he showed to everyone he met. His love for his family was unwavering, and the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew him. Though deeply missed, Steve's legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly and the countless lives he touched. His spirit, laughter, and love will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 2pm to 4pm. In keeping with the tradition of honoring the magician's life and their place in the magical community, a broken wand ceremony will begin at 4 p.m.
