Steven Allen Kamp, 69, of Wood River, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born September 27, 1956, in Alton, he was the son of Richard Steven Kamp, Shirley Walmsley Kamp, and Stepmother Irma Kamp, all preceding him in death.
Steve leaves behind his high school sweetheart of 52 Valentine’s Days and 48 years of marriage, Cindy Cobine Kamp; two sons, James Richard (Samantha) and David Allen (Hanna); and his greatest joy—his four grandchildren: Hazel Mae, Oliver Hayden, Ivy Elisabeth, and Ada Marie Kamp. The oldest of five boys, is survived by brothers Tom (Chris), Paul (Sherry), Andy (Laura), and Rich (Penie), along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his Rhondell family.
Steve lived life full-throttle—loving music, four-wheelers, river floats, high-performance cars, and the unforgettable thrill of powered parachuting. As a high school wrestler, he later enjoyed coaching and cheering on many area wrestlers. He proudly worked over 20 years as a machinist at Owens-Illinois/Brockway and later trained new machinists at G&S in Red Bud. His liver transplant in 2014 gave him a “second life,” which he embraced with gratitude and joy. Our family is forever grateful to his extended care team at SLU Hospital for their dedication and expertise.
