Theresa A. Barton, 59, passed away at 6:35am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 8, 1964, in Alton, the daughter of Chris Runyon of Kentucky and the late Deanne L. (Wilkey) Runyon. She married Timothy Barton on April 7, 1984, in Rosewood Heights, and he survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son in law: Ashley and Brian Martinez of Hinckley, Ohio, Timothy Barton of East Alton, five grandchildren: Chloe McPherson, Reese McPherson, Graeme Martinez, Foster Martinez, Hayden Barton, a brother and sister in law: Michael and Natalie Runyon of Godfrey, her nieces and nephew: Eliana and Tom McBee, Madeline Runyon, Meghan Runyon, Bella Runyon, Jude Runyon, Eva Runyon, Joyanna Runyon, Sophie Runyon, Brooklyn Runyon, Emilia Runyon, brothers in law and sisters in law: Joe and Brooke Barton of St. Charles, Missouri, Mike and Becky Barton of Roxana, her mother in law: Shirley Barton of Rosewood Heights, an aunt, an uncle, and many other extended family and friends.

Theresa was formerly employed as a Special Education Teacher at many local school districts. She was born to be a teacher and is loved by her students. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She would do anything for them.

In addition to her mom, she was preceded in death by her father in law: Jerry Barton.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm until time of memorial services at 6pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Father Tom Liebler will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the December 5th Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
